BSA Lakestar Pocket Rocket Baitboat
I suppose these are still a bit controversial but what the hell heres a review anyway.
I bought this earlier this year after having had a Angling Technics Microcat I bought off a friend go haywire on me after only a couple of uses.(Fortunately for me he took it back and got it repaired under warranty and sold it on , what a guy!!)
I nearly bought a Procat but after seeing how small the hopper was I was put off due to me wanting to use it in France where alot of bait is often required.
It Holds around 3kg of bait in the hopper.
Its never let me down , its speed , quietness and agility are all superb and the battery life is nothing short of amazing , the thing that also did it for me was how ridiculously light it is.
The only thing thats annoyed me about it is the little cover you see on the front is the battery cover and the battery hangs vertically from this via velcro which is ......well....crap and the battery falls to one side making the boat slightly lean to one side in the water then you have to keep altering course ever so slightly for it to go straight(annoying) , so I glued it on and bought another battery cover for the spare battery.
The handset takes regular AA batteries and the battery life is very good , not had to change them yet , it also has a battery meter on the handset.
It comes with a 240v battery charger which takes 15hrs from flat to full charge but I also bought a 1hr quick charger which can be used in car or 240v which was a godsend in France when it was getting very heavy use.
I was fishing at around 100-110yds range in France and although I'm fairly adept at spodding I cannot cast a large spod that far anywhere near accurately(70-75yds is my safe limit) so the baitboat really was essential and I also use it at Belmont where I always felt like a prat spodding hemp 25yds , you might think I look like a prat with a baitboat but its gets my chosen carpetfeed out there with ease even at night.
A great bit of kit and very well made , impressed up to now
RRP is £350 and a carrybag and fast charger are extra
Not quite sure if its worth the money for the amount of use I get out of it in the UK , the only reason I keep it is really for France
Please note :-
It looks nothing like the picture(its the only one I could find), it has a matt textured finish not shiny almost chromelike as the picture shows.

BSA Lakestar Pocket Rocket Baitboat Posted by carpmaster on 2008-08-18 14:14:35 My Score:
hi
i have the pocket rocket aswell i bought mine when they were first released and although a very good boat they were some fundamental things missing, the main one being bait drop indication, so i was a bit miffed that 8 months later they brought out the mk2 version of the boat, but hence i put my old one on ebay put some money to what i got for it and got the mk2 version, and what a superb boat this is, 2 batterys for the boat, rechargable handset, and bait drop indication, the power of th boat is awesome and even in choppy conditions handles well, the leds can be switched on or off now from the handset which also saves on battery power.
for the price of £410 delivered from BSA you would think they would throw a carry bag in for the money but this will set you back another £50 if you want one
overall though a superb boat and probably the best budget boat on the market in my opinion. |
